For those who don't know, authentic Makita 5ah is normally reselling at only $90-100 on FB. No one looks at the $200+ rrp for a battery.

Yes, I agree. And even for those that won't see a performance benefit, they will of course run longer between charges. The only reason I could suggest otherwise is: the FlexVolt battery will have an extra row of cells, making it it slightly bulkier and heavier. So if you are working in tight spaces or overhead a lot, you might value a more compact/lighter tool over a slight increase in power. But if you're already spending 500+ it's likely the tool could make good use of FlexVolt battery. Although it doesn't say anywhere, I do wonder whether you don't got a choice, and you just get the one specifically associated with the tool you purchase. (18v tool = 18v battery, 54v tool = 54v battery)

Note that besides being compatible, a few of the DeWalt 18v (Flexvolt range) tools perform slightly better if you use the 6Ah battery. This includes some drills, impact driver, etc, so ism pretty much always worth choosing the 6Ah if they give you a choice.

The 6.0Ah FlexVolt battery has pretty bad reviews, though.
