pretty much all merino socks are blended with synthetics for durability and stretch. the merinolink ones i mentioned are actually 50% merino, 46% nylon. the thickness is what matters more, since most people are actually buying them to regulate sweating and odour. these ones seem an ideal midweight for wearing underneath warm boots for general activities in the aussie snow- being too thick/warm would actually be a hindrance :)

pretty much all merino socks I was referring to the top shown in the thumbnail. It is 15% plastic. I only wear 100% natural fibres.

whoops just realised you meant the baselayers. but same logic applies, little bit of synthetic makes them dry faster and last longer
