Reddit's bloated with misinformation on motor oil basics. Better off turning to bobistheoilguy and such. 0w20 can have better wear ratings and results than 5w30 oils. Modern tight tolerances, VVT and the conditions where most engine wear takes place (usually when starting) often mean a thinner oil can be better for longevity. Especially in a hybrid! Just refer to your owner's manual and sleep tight. There isn't some grand emissions conspiracy taking place here, plenty of automotive engineers will happily tell you some cars ought to be run on the 0w20 oils they were designed around.

Consider this as an alternative… https://autobarn.com.au/ab/p/309999 A litre extra…. Autobarn also have the 5L GW 0w-30 for $40.

@Fuzor: Can't speak for all brands, but Toyota's hybrid engines are rated for a wide range of viscosities. The 2.5L in the RAV4, Camry and Kluger can use anything from from 0W-16 to 5W-30 for example.

should be alright.

For hybrids, the thinner the better. You burn through an extra litre or two over 6 months, but I've found that you get an extra 0.5L/100km saving, which ends up paying for the price difference. I normally get the 0w16 when sparesbox has it for around ~$55 incl postage, but this here is a great price
